The loss of our singer, co-writer, and friend Paula Smith also means the end of the road for Lochinvar, the band. There is absolutely no way that this band can or will go on without her. There is no Lochinvar without Paula.
Paula founded this band 22 years ago, in 1986. I joined in 1989, when I was 25.
Lochinvar was like "the little band that could" in many ways. There were so many people who were into the band, even though we never had a major label record deal, haven't played a live show as a band in 10 years, and never toured outside of Texas and Oklahoma. Both Paula and I were honored to be a part of your lives, and we were extremely proud of what we accomplished with the band, even though we had absolutely no idea what we were doing most of the time. The fact that people in Europe and Japan bought our little self-financed CD's was INCREDIBLE to us.
We owe a huge thank you to all of the fans who purchased and listened to our music, the websites, podcasts, and print magazines that reviewed our CD's, interviewed us, and helped spread the word, and all of the people who ever saw us play or took the time to say something to us after a show. It really, really, means a LOT. Nobody who does music for the right reason does it to make money. We do it to touch people and to express our deepest feelings, fears, hopes, and dreams. We had an opportunity to do that, and we will forever be grateful to each of you for it. Most people never know that their music has touched someone, but Paula did, and she relished it. Again, on behalf of Paula as well as myself, I thank you.
There were a lot of people who were a part of all this; band members, family, friends, producers, engineers, writers - there are too many to list them all, and I'll probably miss some, but here goes:

Oh! young Lochinvar is come out of the west,
Through all the wide Border his steed was the best;
And save his good broadsword he weapons had none.
He rode all unarmed and he rode all alone.
So faithful in love and so dauntless in war,
There never was knight like the young Lochinvar.

I've had to remove the Guestbook section of the site. PHP's advanced guestbook is apparently very vulnerable to hacks and SPAM. We got hit with it once before, and I fixed it by moving the guestbook to another directory. Last week we were hit by a LOT of suspicious looking messages and actually had our account suspended temporarily as a result. There are various ways that this can be prevented, but since this site is a labor of love for me I've decided it isn't worth it.
There seem to be an awful lot of people with nothing better to do than sit around and figure out how to hack into websites for the hell of it.

We're getting close to selling out the first pressing of "Fire Eyes", which is awesome! Thanks to all of you who've bought the CD.

There's a very nice review of
Fire Eyes on the
Harvest Moon Music site, by Dave Knoch. Harvest Moon Music exists to support indie artists like us and there's a lot of cool stuff on Dave's site. It's very well designed and very well written. Check it out, and tell Dave Lochinvar said hello!
You can also read Dave's review on our
reviews page.
